The first thing you should know is about the term palm shell. Shell is actually a synonym for shell. It is the layer that is close to the flesh of the fruit, and in this context, of course, it means the oil palm. There is a good chance that the term shell is more familiar to many people. Although on the one hand it must also be recognized, that both terms actually indicate and mean the same word and object.
Not much different from the character of the shell of other types of coconut fruit in general. Where the skin always has a contour that emphasizes the hard side. The opposite of the contents of the fruit. This serves as a protection for the flesh of the palm core from all possibilities. Be it bacterial attacks, insects or even pests.
The skin of an oil palm fruit will definitely undergo a color transformation. Starting from the color of the fruit when it is young, stepping on the almost ripe period until the time it is ready to harvest (old). The color shades are the green phase where the fruit is still in a very young state. Reddish orange signifies the phase towards early maturity. Maroon-brownish as the phase of almost perfect maturity. And finally, dark brown-black indicates the phase ready to be harvested.
This color pattern is found on the outermost layer of the fruit. This is followed by the second layer, which is filled with the flesh of the skin that is attached to the shell of the Palm. This third, hard layer is referred to as the shell. Meanwhile, the white flesh of the fruit is in the innermost layer, which is protected by the shell.
